About Us

Pratt Street Learning Center (PSLC), located on the corner of Pratt and Summerdale in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, first opened its doors in August 2008, under the leadership of Linda Hatchell. “Mrs. Linda”, which is what everyone calls her, has been caring for children for over forty years. She opened PSLC upon closing her previously owned centers called Linda’s Kids Are Special. A few months after opening, Linda partnered with her daughter, now co-owner and Director, Aliya Johnson-Roberts. With their vision and the foundation created by Mrs. Linda around excellence and quality while providing education to young children, it has allowed them to take the vision of PSLC to unbeknownst heights in the field of early childhood education which now includes Bustleton Learning Center.

As a developmental and education-based center, Pratt Street Learning Center and Bustleton Learning Center, Inc. adheres to principles in its mission of providing a high-quality child care program in a nurturing environment. We serve children and families from many cultures, religious beliefs, ages, and economic backgrounds. We have been blessed to expand to a second site to continue our mission by opening Bustleton Learning Center.

Our Mission

Bustleton Learning Center’s/Pratt Street Learning Center’s mission is to provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate care and early education for young children while partnering with their families and the surrounding community. We strive to provide a creative and safe learning environment that nurtures, respects, and supports each child’s unique qualities and potential while empowering staff to grow in the ECE field and working toward the betterment of families and the community. Our Core Focus is to be a hub in the community that educates and develops children and families by removing barriers while serving children and families.

Philosophy of Our Program

Our educational program is based on sound principles of child development. These principles reflect that children learn and grow by exploration and age-appropriate environments. Our goals are to give each child a sense of self-worth, by helping them develop at their own individual pace. We are committed to promoting and supporting all aspects of child development in an atmosphere where children are respected, nurtured and loved. Your child is an individual who is an integral member of a group, and whose uniqueness is acknowledged and appreciated. We believe that children must first feel emotionally and physically secure to be able to truly explore and learn from their environment.

Children participate in a variety of individual and group activities designed to develop language and reading readiness skills. Enhancing physical, social-emotional and intellectual growth are skills which will increase their ability to succeed in school and communities alike. Our activities extend to a variety of places including but not limited to the classroom. We look to find connections and relationships to learning well beyond the realm of center. That is how we build relationships and support systems to help further advance our program.

Our program is built on building and fostering relationships. We embrace the concept of individuality, and thrive based on what “We” do in a collaborative effort to support all children. We encourage parents to get involved in our program, make suggestions, and ask plenty of questions.
